Roman City of Carnuntum

The Roman city of Carnuntum is unique in the world. In the middle of an idyllic park, an entire Roman city district has been reconstructed as it was 1,700 years ago. The buildings are not dummies or Hollywood fantasies, the houses were built on the foundations of the ancient buildings and therefore correspond exactly to the historical models in size and layout. Since 2021, the Roman city of Carnuntum and the associated archaeological monuments have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Austrian Danube Limes. The city itself was a metropolis in ancient times, as Carnuntum was the provincial capital in the 4th century and one of the largest cities in the Roman Empire. The Roman city of Carnuntum is therefore unique and there is probably no better place to explore Austria's Roman history. Antiquity awaits you at the gates of Vienna!
