The history of Knize begins in the 19th century, when the Emperor and the House of Habsburg used the services of the tailor's workshop. Founded in 1858, Knize received the title “k. u.k. Hofschneider".

The creative birth of the traditional brand took place in the age of the Belle Époque. The store on the Graben was designed by Adolf Loos in 1910 - the salons have been preserved in their original condition to this day. In 1922 Ernst Dryden became chief designer, and his work made Knize famous worldwide as the first men's fashion label. The fragrance "Knize Ten" and a cosmetics line for men were also created at this time. Customers included Oskar Kokoschka, Marilyn Monroe, Kurt Tucholsky and Josephine Baker. Marlene Dietrich had Knize tails tailored for her stage shows.

Tailor-made suits and accessories are still made by hand at the Graben today. Tailoring, a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, is also practiced. In addition to tailored clothing, the high-quality men's collection is available, as well as the cosmetics line, accessories, shoes and hats.
